Yet another mainline (in this case, Anglican) cleric demonstrates that there are just some things they should never, ever talk about. It comes to us courtesy of the Australian Broadcasting Company:
Anglican Primate Phillip Aspinall has been touring the West Bank with a delegation of Australian church leaders.
He has told the ABC’s AM program that Israel’s wall, or separation barrier, is inhumane.
“Where there are acts of violence and terrorism it does make them [the Israelis] want to secure their own lives,” he said.
“Our concern is that it in doing so they don’t then oppress another group of people and behave in an inhumane way to another group.
“I think if steps are taken which then lead to great frustration and feelings of being pressured and hemmed in and oppressed on the part of another group of people, that may well have the effect of leading to more anger and more frustration and more violence.” [Emphasis added.]
So: Israel taking action to protect its civilians from suicide bombers who desire to destroy their country is OK–so long as it doesn’t frustrate and pressure and hem in the people who support the bombers. That is inhumane. Because you certainly wouldn’t want to frustrate, pressure, or hem in people who say stuff like this:
“Palestine is Arab Islamic land, from the river to the sea, including Jerusalem… there is no room in it for the Jews.”
