…you get a look like that of Episcopal Presiding Bishop Katherine Jefferts-Schori on her visit to Jerusalem this week:

According to Christopher Johnson at Midwest Conservative Journal, this is the “oven mitt and lederhosen” look. Me, I think it was her attempt to solve the Israeli-Palestinian conflict by scaring all the residents of the Holy Land into decamping to Mauritania or somewhere else that doesn’t have battery-powered clergy apparel. But that’s just a guess.

David,
Thanks for posting that. I saw some of those pictures and though about a “TV Test Pattern” or a box of crayons. Your analogies were better.

Pastor Fischler,
Are you trying to cause physical injury. I laughed so hard (and cried!) that I think I “popped” something inside me. If I have internal bleeding, it is all your fault (GRIN).
Please know that Redeemer’s Launch is in our Prayers.
Have a Blessed Easter!!

Thanks, Chip. Give my regards to your pastor and all the folks at Holy Trinity!

She is a walking, talking parody! Never has anything like this been seen before. Even PB Edmund Browning with his big clown nose among other clergy similarly arrayed was not quite this outlandish.
I started to ask what you think possesses her, but then I’m afraid I know exactly what it is. Wow! This is truly frightening.

Wow that even causes my eyes to hurt…

If she could only play the pipes. That would scare ‘em into peace… or at least uniting against those who play the pipes.

As an Oregonian allow me to inform you that Katherine hails from Oregon. At the end of the Trail, her vestments look mighty fine to us. I can’t believe that you have allowed NY and Paris to train your eyes. Obviously, the rich symbolism of the colors and the cut of cloth have escaped your notice.

Thanks for this! I finally feel a little bit better about my own denomination.
I had thought that our “leaders” were the most embarrassing in the world…
Glad to see I was wrong.

Folks,
I hate to admit it but, other than the fact that they are colored like a clown outfit, (at this time of year, she should be wearing purple for lent) the vestments are correct. Any properly atired bishop could be accused of a “oven mitt and lederhosen” look.
She is wearing a Mitre (Shaped like a flame, to symbolize the Holy Spirit which was poured out on the apostles on Pentecost) and a cope which is a remnant of the “princely robes” of the Bishop.
Needless to say, she looks like a clown! And of course, she has no business wearing any vestments. All kidding aside, we really do need more Marine Biologists and I think she should go back to that calling.

I just think to myself, “an explosion of sherbert.”

So I am late in discovering this visual sensation. If her role were not supposed to be one of respect, I’d ask what does this clown lady think she is doing? But since she is a bishop, I guess I’ll withhold asking. Snicker… Mardi Gras has been over for a while now.

Are you sure this wasn’t from Halloween? That’s the most obnoxious and ridiculous outfit I’ve ever seen. What ever happened to decent black and episcopal purple? I guess they went the way that Biblical inerrancy, the Gospel, and orthodox theology went in the Episcopal Church– in the dumpster. Oh well…
