Steve Salyards at GA Junkie has a terrific post that summarizes the important issues that are coming up the next three days at the EPC General Assembly. It’s a post I should have written, and would have if I hadn’t been up to my ears in a Doctor of Ministry course last week. I’ll be reporting on the issues Steve lays out. Thanks to him for doing the set-up work.

The Little Mermaid: Cultural Subversive (UPDATED)
Posted by David Fischler under Academia, Sexual Issues[13] Comments
Since I’m here in Michigan, I decided I had to bring to your attention a study by University of Michigan researchers, who according to LifeSite News have discovered that “love stories told in classic Disney and other G-rated children’s films – such as the Little Mermaid – are partially to blame for the pervasiveness of what they label “heteronormativity.”
UPDATE: I’ve never done this before, but I’ve decided Alan is right in his comment. I need to read this paper, rather than rely on media accounts, before criticizing it. I will come back to it when I’ve done so, but for now I withdraw my previous comments.

At the EPC General Assembly, Day 1
Posted by David Fischler under Evangelical Presbyterian Church[5] Comments
I’m in Brighton, Michigan for the next four days, attending the Evangelical Presbyterian Church’s 29th General Assembly. At the moment I’m in a workshop on mercy ministries, which is one of the core elements of Redeemer EPC, my church plant. I will be reporting on anything of consequence that happens here over the next few days. For, I’ll mention that I got here yesterday and attended the Detroit Tigers-Chicago Cubs game at Comerica Park. A good pitcher’s duel between Carlos Zambrano and Edwin Jackson (despite some wildness on both their parts) that ended with a walk-off home run in the bottom of the ninth giving the Tigers the win. As the old saying goes, the crowd went wild. Anyway, more from the EPC GA soon.
