Recent strong anti-Israel statements by President Ahmadinejad are not constructive and have increased the opposition in some quarters of the United States to negotiating with Iran.
That’s according to a statement from the American Friends Service Committee. According to the AFSC Web site, said statement was supposed to “address the issues of Iran’s nuclear program and President Ahmadinejad’s recent comments.” The sentence above is the only reference to Ahmadinejad’s ravings, which as recently as last month included this gem:
The pretext (Holocaust) for the creation of the Zionist regime (Israel) is false … It is a lie based on an unprovable and mythical claim.
Yeah, I’d say that was “not constructive.”

One of the many blessings of my life was a wintry afternoon working at a shoe store in 1976. The snow was predicted, but it hadn’t started to fall until the doors opened. There were no customers but because of mall rules we had to stay open. Not a problem for me and the manager because we both walked to work.
Mr. Surette was a kindly man close to retirement. He rarely had a harsh word and was very encouraging to me. On this day, with just the two of us, he decided to talk about many things. On that day I heard, first hand from someone who was there, what it was like at the liberation of Bergen-Belsen. He was with the Royal New Brunswick Regiment who assisted in the rehabilitation of the prisoners. He was not there on the day of the liberation which was apparently a day of shock and muted joy. The harder work was later trying to feed the prisoners and get them back to health or almost as often burying them because they couldn’t make it.
Part of our walk with Jesus is deciding who to believe. Ultimately we learn from people we trust who really know what the truth is. The late Sgt. Eloi Surette 1RNBR was one of those trusted teachers.
Holocaust deniers are like every other false teacher – they have a personal agenda that is best served by perverting or denying the truth.
