I’ve got a Tim Tebow problem….
If Tebow [and the Denver Broncos] wins the Super Bowl, against all odds, it will buoy his faithful, and emboldened faithful can do insane things, like burning mosques, bashing gays and indiscriminately banishing immigrants. While America has become more inclusive since Jerry Falwell’s first political forays, a Tebow triumph could set those efforts back considerably.

UPDATE: The Jewish Week has taken down the article from which this was taken, and Rabbi Hammerman has it taken down from his personal blog and offered an apology in its place.

When the Rabbi read the Hebrew Bible (aka the Old Testament) didn’t he notice how many times God bailed out the Israelites “against all odds?” Was that a bad thing in his view?
Tebow Derangement Syndrome is spreading wildly!

Just imagine the outrage if a “Christian” had posted this about a devoutly Jewish athlete. But consider the author…he’s a Red Sox fan fer cryin’ out loud.

In the military, we called this “Loss of the Big Picture Casualty”…sound the alarm, bring the medic…next he’ll be advocating the use of steel umbrellas because it is possible that anvils can fall from the sky.

He seems to be imagining that Tebow fans are similar to some of the citizens of Cairo (Egypt).

What a truly dreadful, trashy, intellectually lazy and ethically challenged article.

Well, I’m disappointed that Tebow apparently plays on Sundays. I’m trying to find ways I can get my Lord’s Day observance back on track, for the weekly recognition of Jesus’ Resurrection is just too important.

I just checked again to see if they posted my own comment and, praise God, his article has been removed. I guess the reaction, from Christians AND a lot of Jews, was too much to ignore.

Wow. I looked at the comments at about 9:30 this morning, and they were overwhelmingly negative. I’m glad the publication had the good sense to take it down.

The only adjective I can find that seems appropriate to describe the Rabbi’s comment is , , , ,idiotic!

This much detachment from reality is just unbelievable.
