Presbyterians Voices for Justice, a left-wing political caucus within the PCUSA, highlights–complete with double-line box–a “response” to September 11 from one of their favorites, Rev. John Shuck, pastor of First Presbyterian Church of Elizabethton, Tennessee. In it, Rev. Shuck offers a speech he made on September 12, 2001 at a service for the victims, a statement from 2003 on the eve of the beginning of the Iraq war, and concludes with this:

Since 9/11/2001 the United States government has behaved badly. This attack turned out to be just what the neocons in the Bush White House needed to carry out their agenda.

I am so cynical now (and I am not alone) that I wouldn’t be surprised to discover that individuals and groups within our government looked the other way or were even actively involved in the implementation of these attacks.

This isn’t the first time that Rev. Shuck has indicated that he’s a 9/11 Truther. That, however, is between him and his mental health professional. The real question is, is PVJ endorsing this? Do they really want to join hands with those who have essentially become the John Birchers of the left? I mean, I agree with PVJ about practically nothing, but I hadn’t really thought them completely unhinged before.

Of course, Rev. Shuck has also made crystal clear that he’s an atheist, and that’s never stopped PVJ from highlighting his stuff before, either, so perhaps the shoe fits, after all.
